All those late coaching moves added some intrigue to the first Wednesday of February, a day that once highlighted the recruiting calendar but has been anti-climactic ever since the 2017 launch of a December signing period. New coaches had to re-recruit prospects who had signed to play for a different staff and now were free to look elsewhere. So did Brent Brennan, who left San Jose State to take over for Fisch at Arizona. Washington refortified its class by adding about several players who originally had signed to play for Fisch at Arizona. Alabama also lost cornerback Jameer Grimsley, who signed with the Tide in December but will now play at Florida instead.

When Jim Harbaugh took a pay cut from Michigan after the 2020 season, getting another chance to be an NFL head coach seemed like a long shot for him. If Nick Saban had retired after the 2022 season it’s doubtful Kalen DeBoer would have been his replacement at Alabama. He leaves Michigan after three straight seasons of beating Ohio State, winning the Big Ten and reaching the playoff. Harbaugh has been a head coach in college and the NFL for 20 years, including a three-year stint with FCS San Diego before landing the Stanford job in 2007. “I knew this was a thing that, not that I had to do, but that I really wanted to do.

The Wolverines might very well have their man already on campus in offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. Political Cartoons View All 253 ImagesWith Harbaugh serving two separate suspensions this past season for potential NCAA rules violations, Michigan went 4-0 with Moore leading the team on game days. Moore was in charge when Michigan won at Penn State and against Ohio State to win the Big Ten East. Jedd Fisch, who went from Arizona to Washington to replace DeBoer, might have been an interesting candidate for Michigan, too. “So Sherrone Moore, shining star,” Harbaugh said.

SEATTLE (AP) — Looking out at Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains from his new football offices, Jedd Fisch saw a place that can consistently contend for championships. As the Huskies transition to the Big Ten and college football expands to a 12-team playoff, Fisch envisions a Washington program that’s perennially in the national mix. "Recruiting was first and foremost the number one consideration in who we were looking for.”At Washington, Fisch will immediately be tasked with putting his recruiting skills to use. “I loved my time at (Arizona),” Fisch said. ___AP college football: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-football

Washington has targeted Arizona's Jedd Fisch and is negotiating a deal with him to succeed Kalen DeBoer as the next coach of the Huskies, according to a person with knowledge of the talks. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Arizona and Fisch were not making any public announcements yet. Less than a week after playing for the national championship, the Huskies moved quickly to fill the vacancy created when DeBoer left for Alabama. Arizona is moving to the Big 12 starting next season but is facing financial issues within its athletic department, and Fisch could see more stability at Washington. Fisch, 47, would be the fourth head coach at Washington since the 2019 season.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Caleb Williams actually doesn't like to run with the ball, even though he's clearly exceptional at it. Political Cartoons View All 1202 ImagesWilliams shook it off and coolly led USC to scores on each of its three overtime possessions. After USC went up 28-20 on Williams’ second TD run early in the fourth quarter, Arizona tied it with 8:17 to play on a gutsy TD pass and a two-point conversion pass by Fifita. Williams rushed 18 yards for a TD in the first overtime, but Cowing caught a TD pass from Fifita on Arizona’s first OT snap. Austin Jones then rushed for an 11-yard TD for USC, but Williams couldn’t hit Brenden Rice for the win.

Musk's comments add to a long-running debate over whether such advisers have too much sway over corporate decision-making. Academic reviews have found mixed evidence about the proxy advisers’ impact. U.S. Republican state officials have also weighed in, writing to the two advisory firms asking if their recommendations met their obligations to investors. Contrary to Musk, however, Republicans at the state and national level have also charged top passive fund managers themselves have grown too aggressive with their proxy votes, a claim fund managers deny. Tesla has faced its own disagreements with the proxy advisers.
True remote jobs are hard to find. FlexJobs found that about 95% of remote jobs have geographic requirements, whether it's a specific region, country, state or city. Some U.S. cities offer more remote jobs that pay $100,000 or higher than others, according to new research from Ladders. Ladders identified the top 10 cities with the highest number of listings for remote jobs that pay at least $100,000 posted on their site between August and October 2022. Coastal cities like San Francisco and New York are leading the charge in offering high paying remote jobs, Ladders CEO David Fisch points out, with other large cities like Washington D.C. and Chicago close behind.
